First Visit

Frequently Asked Questions:

Should I be involved in my child’s visits?

Yes, absolutely. Our program functions in large part because of parent training. The parents receive strategies and techniques to work with their child in-between visits. The more a caregiver is involved the better the outcomes for the child.

When and where do visits take place?

Visits generally take place in the home. However, community and office sessions can be arranged when appropriate.

How can I prepare for a visit?

Preparation for a visit should be minimal, we appreciate you letting us join you in your home and do not want to add any additional pressure or constraints to your already busy life.

What if I need to reschedule or cancel?

We understand that things come up and we will make every attempt to accommodate changes. Please reach out to your interventionalist as soon as possible.

Do I cancel if there’s Illness in the home?

We ask that you cancel if your child or anyone in the home that the interventionalist may come into contact with has experienced fever, diarrhea, vomiting or has any other communicable illnesses.

Can siblings be involved?

It is best practice that children learn within their natural environment. We are committed to supporting you and your child and often involve siblings and other family members. However, the acquisition of new skills can at times be learned best through one on one direct teaching then later generalized with siblings or other members of the family. Please allow for variety in visit structure.

Who can I contact if I need any program changes?

The best place to start would be with your child’s interventionalist, if your needs are unresolved or you would prefer you can also always contact your child’s Program Manager.

What to expect during the first visit

A first visit is a great chance for Connections ABA to get to know your family. We will thoroughly go over the initial assessment, discuss office policy, frequently asked questions and child case history. This is also a time when we can talk over expectations and discuss any scheduling needs you may have. This introduction is also an opportunity for your child to get familiar with new people in their home, and begin to establish a rapport and routine, with an interventionalist. Our initial visit will last approximately an hour and a half.

Tips for the first visit:

  • Have a list of questions, concerns, or items you need further clarification on.

  • Have case history paperwork completed.

  • Have some days/times prepared that work well for you and your child for scheduling.

  • Copies of any additional reports you may want to share as pertinent information about your child.

We look forward to meeting with you and your child!
